Kitchen island design ideas
KBBC Kitchens have lots of kitchen design ideas so why not include a kitchen island in your kitchen design plans?
Kitchen islands can be as simple as a small breakfast bar or table and our kitchen designers are happy to help you incorporate one into your kitchen design.
View the pictures of kitchen islands below for ideas of how a kitchen island can enhance your kitchen design.
Kitchen islands help expand your work space and storage and can provide room for additional kitchen appliances.
Many new kitchen islands are being designed with
useful and decorative touches, making a kitchen island a focal point in the kitchen.
Some kitchen islands are elaborate bespoke pieces of fine cabinetry which include a kitchen sink, granite worktops, a
hob, kitchen cabinets for storage, a dishwasher or a small refrigerator.
The size of the kitchen island you can have will depend on the size and shape of the kitchen.
Where to position a kitchen island?
The ideal position for a kitchen island is at a central point in your kitchen, so that it allows plenty of space for manoeuvring around it.
It is best to speak to your kitchen designer to make sure that there is actually enough room for the kitchen island in the space you have. The kitchen designers at KBBC offer a free kitchen design service and would ensure that it doesn't clash with other surrounding kitchen units and work areas within the kitchen.
There would be little point of including a kitchen island if it makes your kitchen feel smaller so our kitchen designers would be happy to advise you on this.

Pictures of Kitchen Islands
Flat surface kitchen island
A flat surface kitchen island (rather than multi-level) contributes simple elegance to a kitchen.
Multi-level kitchen island
A multi-level island can incorporate separate work areas including both food preparation and eating areas, wine racks, cook book shelves, bar sinks and even deep fryers.
Multiple kitchen islands
A large kitchen can accommodate multiple kitchen islands. For example a kitchen could have a food preparation island near the kitchen sink or stove and then have a second kitchen island which can be used for serving and as a breakfast bar.
Kitchen islands designs
If you have a kitchen/diner, kitchen islands can house a hob which will allow you to face
out into the dining/seating area where your family and guests gather. When a kitchen hob is incorporated into a kitchen island design, it is important for safety reasons that the kitchen island is designed deep enough to
allow some worktop space at the back of the hob.
Narrow kitchen islands are most suitable for a breakfast bar which is advantageous if your kitchen is not large enough to have a separate dining area.
