Number 10 set for new kitchen units

Published on: 28/06/2010David and Samantha Cameron enter Downing StreetNew kitchen units are currently being installed at 10 Downing Street.

The Camerons have decided to do away with the old kitchen previously used by Gordon Brown and his family in favour of a more contemporary design, according to the Daily Mail.

It reports that Samantha Cameron, wife of prime minister David, wanted "something more groovy" than the 1980s-style stripped pine kitchen design that the couple were met with when they first moved in.

Mr Cameron told the Times earlier this month that he and his wife were looking to revamp the kitchen because they tend to spend a lot of time in this particular part of the home as they cook and talk to their children.

"It is the most important room in the house. So at no extra cost to the taxpayer we are going to improve it," he commented.

The Camerons moved into Number 10 at the end of May. They are living in a flat at the address while the family apartment at Number 11 used by both the Browns and the Blairs is being renovated.
