Chandeliers 'a popular feature in kitchen design'

This is according to the Deccan Herald, which reports that chandeliers are becoming smaller and more modern in design than they used to be, making them a suitable option for contemporary homes.

Some chandeliers also feature eco-friendly lighting options to help reduce energy costs.

Interior designer Harsha Jalgavkar explains: "More commonly, kitchens and bathrooms have become the popular spaces for chandeliers."

Colourful chandeliers in particular can add a sense a drama to the kitchen, Bindu Gopal Rao of the Deccan Herald notes.

Other new trends in kitchen design for 2010 include a shift towards traditional styles and the use of cherry wood for kitchen units, according to the National Kitchen & Bath Association.

Under-counter fridges, ceramic and porcelain tiled floors and drawer-style dishwashers also look set to be popular this year, the organisation says.
