The atmosphere of a room will rub off on those within it, so dressing up the home in a contemporary style could be great for those looking for vibrancy in their lives, Helen Green of the Terry's Fabrics blog says.

Ms Green suggests an uber-modern kitchen design that is fresh and slightly retro in the use of accents.

A cool mix of handle-free white units and icy-blue gloss splashbacks could be ideal, along with 1950s-inspired barstools and a retro fridge or print for the wall.

For a clean and elegant kitchen, Ms Green recently recommended walnut units, cream walls and tiles and simple spotlights, paired with stainless steel appliances and matching wood table and chairs.
