Go green with eco-friendly kitchen appliances ★★★★★
Published on: 29/07/2010
Homeowners looking at ways of making their kitchens more eco-friendly should opt for the right appliances, according to one publication.
The Mercury says that the key to greening the kitchen lies in selecting appliances that consume less energy and water than traditional ones.
It recommends looking into kitchen appliances like energy-efficient dishwashers, fridges and even cookers, such as those featuring induction hobs.
"Induction enables 90 per cent of the heat generated to go directly into the cooking vessel, compared with 75 per cent for electric and about 40 per cent for gas," the newspaper explains.
Setting up recycling bins in the kitchen can also go a long way to making kitchens more environmentally-friendly.
As well separating metal, plastic and paper items and putting them in the relevant local recycling bin, homeowners may want to put vegetable peelings and other natural matter that it quick to rot in a composting bin for the garden.
