New washing machines aim to fit small kitchens

Homeowners with small kitchens may want to consider new washing machines being launched by Hoover and Candy.
The kitchen appliances have a depth of 40 cm, compared with 55 to 70 cm for standard washing machines, according to Which?.
However, they still manage to hold 6 to 7 kg of washing each, the manufacturers say, claiming that they are the largest capacity slim-depth washing machines available.
"These shallow-depth washing machines will appeal to people living in flats or those with limited space for their appliances," commented Which? washing machines expert Vivienne Fitzroy.
The news comes shortly after Hoover announced details of a dishwasher that could be ideal for family kitchens as it has three drawers instead of the standard two.
According to Which?, this means that up to ten per cent more dishes can be cleaned at any one time.
The third drawer is located at the top of the machine and is
designed to hold small items such as cheese graters.
