Add clean lines to traditional kitchens to mix old and new

Homeowners considering a kitchen design that combines old and new might want to focus on adding clean lines to traditional styles.
Speaking to the Ottawa Citizen, Janik Lemery of Astro Design recommends adding luxurious kitchen appliances and crisp lines to traditional kitchens with an old-fashioned appearance.
These kitchens should ideally make use of classic hinges and vintage bevelled glass for the perfect mix of modern and country-style design, she explains.
"It is a more modern take in the sense that it has cleaner lines - it's not overdone," she comments.
When it comes to kitchen appliances, choose products in black, white and brown colours rather than stainless steel - or more unusual shades - so that they blend in with the traditional kitchen design, Ms Lemery says.
Vintage-style handles for kitchen units and extensive use of natural wood throughout the room could also help to create a country-style feel for new kitchens.
