Parquet floors for kitchens 'making a comeback'

Consumers who are installing new kitchens in their homes may want to consider fitting new flooring as well.
According to Emily Pointer of Beautiful Kitchens, parquet flooring is making something of a comeback in the world of kitchen design.
This type of floor creates a striking mosaic effect using different pieces of wood, with the herringbone style being one of the most popular.
Parquet floors were particularly common between the Edwardian period and the 1930s and are now back in Britons' homes.
"Why not create your own unique design by framing an island unit or experimenting with oils to create contrasting colours?" Ms Pointer says in a blog post.
Other options for kitchen floors include those made from stone and concrete, according to Hayley Gilbert of 4Homes.
Timber, vinyl and linoleum coverings are also popular in kitchens, but the homeowner's choice may depend on how much work they put into keeping their floor clean and well-maintained.
