Top tips for painting kitchen walls ★★★★★
Published on: 14/07/2010
Homeowners looking to redecorate their walls as part of a kitchen makeover should ensure they adequately ready these surfaces before applying paint, according to one expert.
Speaking to the San Antonio Express-News, Dutch Boy senior product manager Mary Ward says high-traffic areas like kitchens require proper preparation of walls before opening the paint and grabbing a brush.
If the walls had previously been covered with semi-gloss or gloss paint, they should first be lightly sanded to produce a duller finish.
"For previously painted walls, thoroughly wash them with a mild soap and water solution," Ms Ward comments.
In terms of kitchen design trends, matte paint is becoming more popular among homeowners renovating this particular part of the home, according to Debbie Zimmer of the Paint Quality Institute.
When it comes to choosing a colour scheme, KitchenBathroomIdeas says kitchens used for socialising should have a welcoming and warm look, while those that are only used for cooking can employ a more adventurous design.
